Probably from a Vulgar Latin root *extracolāre or *transcolāre, from Latin colāre (“filter, strain, purify”). Compare Aromanian stricor, stricurari. Less likely from s- + trece (“pass”), and with influence from verbs like spânzura, vântura, etc.^[1]
