- (Utrecht, hamlet) First attested as velthusen around 1307. Compound of Middle Dutch velt (“field”) and the plural form of huus (“house”).
- (Drenthe) Attested as Veldhuizen in 1851-1855. Compound of veld (“field”) and the plural form of huis (“house”). The element veld was added to distinguish the settlement from Veenhuizen.

- (Ede) First attested as velthusen in 1294-1295. Compound of veld (“field”) and the plural form of huis (“house”).
