Cognate with Avestan 𐬙𐬀𐬱𐬙𐬀 (tašta, “bowl”), Manichaean Parthian [Manichaean needed] (tʾst /tāst/, “cup”), Northern Kurdish teşt, Pashto طشت (tašt), Ormuri طشت. Ultimately from the past participle of the Proto-Iranian *taš- (“to make, construct; to cut”, verb), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tā́ćšti, from Proto-Indo-European *tḗtḱ-ti ~ *tétḱ-n̥ti, from *tetḱ- (“to create”).
