Etymology
Borrowed from Spanish pinga, deverbal of pingar (“to hang”), from Asturian pingar, from Vulgar Latin *pendicāre. Alternatively, from Hokkien 扁擔/扁担 (pin-taⁿ, “carrying pole”) according to Manuel (1948), Panganiban (1972), and English (1987).
