Albanian
Etymology
From Proto-Albanian *laiša, close to the Balto-Slavic word for 'foliage'. Compare Lithuanian laĩškos (“leaf”), Latvian laĩska (“leaf on a linen stalk; stalk”), Proto-Slavic *lȋstъ (“leaf”).[1] Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *(u)laś-, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂welh₁- (“wool”). Cognate to Latin vellus (“wool, fleece, skin”).[2]
