Etymology
From Proto-Finnic *kiuru (compare Ingrian kiuru, Karelian kiuru, Votic tšiuru and dialectal Estonian kiur). Possibly related to Latvian cīrulis, in which case the Finnic word might be borrowed from Baltic.
