Etymology
From a Slavic language (compare with Serbo-Croatian ogrozd, Slovak egreš, Czech angrešt), from Italian agresto (“juice of sour grapes, verjuice”) (or directly) from Latin agrestis (“rustic, wild”), from ager (“field, farm”).
