Inherited from Prakrit 𑀤𑁂𑀓𑁆𑀔𑀇 (dĕkkhaï), from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀤𑁂𑀔𑀢𑀺 (dekhati), from Sanskrit दृश् (dṛś), from Proto-Indo-European *derḱ-.[1][2] Cognate with Hindi देखना (dekhnā).
