Borrowed from Medieval Latin cicorea, cichorea, cicoria (compare German Zichorie (“chicory”), French chicorée (“chicory”)), from Latin cichorium, cichoreum (“common chicory; endive”), from Ancient Greek κῐχόρῐον (kikhórion, “chicory”). First attested in 1544.[1]
