Inherited from Middle French bramer, from Old Occitan bramar, from Gothic 𐌱𐍂𐌰𐌼𐌼𐍉𐌽 (brammōn), 𐌱𐍂𐌰𐌼𐌾𐌰𐌽 (bramjan), from Proto-Germanic *bramjaną (“to bellow, roar”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰrem-. Compare Middle Low German brammen (“to roar”), Dutch brommen (“to bellow”), English brim. More at brim.
