[edit]From Proto-Hellenic *kórwos (“boy”) (whence Mycenaean Greek 𐀒𐀺 (ko-wo)), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱer- (“to grow”); see also Old Armenian սերիմ (serim, “be born”) and սերեմ (serem, “bring forth”), Ancient Greek κόρη (kórē, “girl”) and κορέννυμι (korénnumi), Latin creō (“produce, create, bring forth”), crēscō and Ceres (“goddess of agriculture”).
